Health has always been a concern for the people all across. And good health is a major issue among other issues rising globally. Good health is essential to cope with the stress, is vital for an active and a longer life.

The word health refers to a state of complete emotional and physical well-being. Healthcare exists to help people maintain this optimal state of health.

Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food and how the body use these nutrients to work properly.

This also focuses on how the diet and nutrients in the diet can be used to prevent diseases. This aids in controlling the diseases that have already been diagnosed like diabetes and hypertension.

The relation between health and nutrition is complex and being studied widely. But balanced nutrition is the major contributor to good health is the well understood phenomenon. Good nutrition along with balanced diet and regular physical activity is a smooth path towards good health.

What is health and nutrition?

Health

WHO defined health as:

“A resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.”

The Lancet defined it as:

The ability of a body to adapt to new threats and infirmities.

Nutrition

According to WHO,

“Nutrition is the intake of food, considered in relation to the body’s dietary needs. Good nutrition – an adequate, well-balanced diet combined with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity.”

Relationship between health and nutrition

Good nutrition is the vital to have a healthy lifestyle. Our health can be improved if we look after ourselves. We should eat foods contains the six important nutrients which include whole grains, a source of protein, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and water. .  Eating a balanced diet is an important part of good health. This is not just the work of food or the physical activity or any other external factor in maintaining good health.  Eating a balanced diet is an important part of good health.

Nutrition is center of a good health. One can never think of being healthy without having the right nutrients in a balanced form. So we have to be very conscious about the foods and nutrients we eat. The types of food we choose are also considered, which are representatives of nutrients in our diets, and the way they can enhance our health.

Diets consisting of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and lean meats have been shown to provide a lot of health benefits like lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients, improving glucose control in diabetics, weight loss, improving arthritis, and reducing the risk of cancer and cardiovascular events and many other related disorders.

Importance of good nutrition:

Apart from improving health, good nutrition also improves the life functions. Good nutrition is really important for physical and mental development. It allows the individual to reach the full potential and excel in the work actively and efficiently.

It also enhances our immune system, which protects us from diseases both communicable and non communicable diseases. A strong immune system is the symbol of a sound health.

Good nutrition also ensures a balanced energy intake which is required by the body to perform all the functions. Under or over nutrition can not only disrupt the balance between energy and work but cause serious health hazards.

Nutrition to promote good health:

Health is not just the absence of disease but a lot more than that. It is a positive quality, emphasizing physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual well being. Balanced nutrition, that provides all the nutrients in quality and quantity, is the anchor of good health.

The type of foods we eat, and the nutrients they provide, influence our growth, development, functional abilities, and health in all perspectives. A proper diet helps in preventing and recovery from certain illnesses. It is to be ensured we eat fresh and whole foods to gain maximum nutrition in its original form rather than processed form.

It would be wrong to say that the relationship between two most researched topics is explained. But it can be concluded that health and nutrition are two cornerstones of a healthy individual and an effective society that is never a burden for the country or the world.
